Hide-and-Seek

You won’t find me In the bathroom

You won’t find me in your bed

I’m not in the kitchen cupboard

And I’m not inside the shed

You won’t find me in the living rooM

The garage or the Hall

If you look around the garden

You won’t find mE there at all

Try and spot me in the attic

That’s a total waste of time

But if you search veRy carefully

You’ll find me in this rhymE

Alarm Clock

You stand on the shelf

by my books near my bed

Your face cuts the darkness

displaying bright red

Your digits transforming

as each second dies

Relentlessly changing

until it's sunrise

You’re my morning conscience

my noisiest mate

Without you I'm certain

I'd always be late

If I'm feeling lazy

deciding to doze

You don't let me lie in

relax or repose

Instead you come calling

when I'm sound asleep

Disturbing my dreams

with your earsplitting BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

BEEP!

Smart

My big sister's so smart:

She knows how to make sausage pizza for dinner

The name of each team that's an FA Cup winner

The difference between an alpaca and llama

The number of teeth on an adult piranha

The signs of the Zodiac (in the right order)

A way to play rap music on the recorder

The alphabet backwards in Turkish and Russian

The method of treating a fish with concussion

The chemical formula of a cucumber

And every dance move for tap, ballet and rumba

The distance in miles from Berlin to Jakarta

My big sister's so smart – but I think I'm smarter!

Pockets

Pockets are great for storing things

Tissues, tickets, coins, key rings

Gloves, bits of paper, five pound notes

Chewing gum, small stones, buttons for your coats

Handkerchiefs, shoelaces, sherbet dips

Wallets, phones, hair ties and hair clips

Chocolate, pens, pencils, shopping receipts

Apple cores, sunglasses, dog biscuit treats

And if your hands are feeling restless with nothing to do

Then you put both of them in your pockets too

Let's Go to the Moon

Grab your things we're going some place

Pack your rucksack and your suitcase

Destination – deepest dark space

Let's go to the Moon

Let's go to the Moon

Rev that rocket till it zooms

Let's go to the Moon

Strap in tight, admire the great view

Venus, Mercury and Mars too

Though your friends are bound to miss you

Let's go to the Moon

Let's go to the Moon

Rev that rocket till it zooms

Let's go to the Moon

Silver stars are brightly shining

Massive asteroids are flying

OMG, electrifying!

Let's go to the Moon

Let's go to the Moon

Rev that rocket till it zooms

Let's go to the Moon

Atmosphere – it's really empty

Gravity – there isn't plenty

It's the trip of any century

Let's go to the Moon

Let's go to the Moon

Rev that rocket till it zooms

Let's go to the Moon

Be a Luna navigator

Gather moon rock, find a crater

Goodbye Earth, we'll see you later

LET'S GO TO THE MOON!

My Comfort Zone

I love my Comfort Zone

It's warm, snug and fluffy

I know its exact boundaries: height, width, depth

Here I feel safe, secure and confident

Doing all the things I've done before

That I know I do extremely well

So much so, that I've no reason to travel outside it

Because beyond is my DIScomfort Zone

A strange, mysterious place

Full of new challenges and experiences

When I imagine visiting it

I fill with a fiery flush of anxiety and uncertainty

Like I'm starting my first day of school

Diving off the swimming pool's top board

Or stepping onto a dark, distant planet

Although these thoughts terrify me

My teacher insists that I need to go there

And when I tell her that I'm unsure of what will happen if I do

She just smiles widely and replies

“Exactly”

The Needy Poem

Like a sock needs a shoe

A sky needs the blue

A keeper needs a zoo

A kung needs a fu

An old needs a new

A ship needs a crew

An a needs a choo

A cow needs a moo

A ghost needs a wooooooooo

A Winnie needs the Poo

A panda needs bamboo

A detective needs a clue

A baby needs a goo-goo

A sausage needs a barbecue

An Aussie needs a didgeridoo

An Indian restaurant needs a vindaloo

And a one needs a two...

I need you

Cats, Dogs

There are lions on the lawn

Beagles bouncing off my bed

Panthers prowling down the path

Dachshunds dashing past the shed

Tigers tearing 'round the road

Spaniels sprinting to the street

Lynxes loping in the lounge

Foxhounds falling at my feet

Tabbies tumbling through trees

Boxers bashing 'gainst the wall

Siamese slinking up the stairs

Collies crawling 'cross the hall

And the weather is appalling

There's no snow or sleet or fog

But I'm clutching my umbrella

'Cos it's raining cat and dogs

Smile Like a Banana

Don't smile like a Cheshire cat

Or like a circus clown

Or like today's your birthday

And, please, please, please don't frown

Are you tense, strained and stressed out?

The best way to be calmer

Place one big grin above your chin

And smile like a banana

Don't smile like a hyena

Or like you are amused

Or like you're being tickled

Or like you've had good news

When life is getting far too much

Show teeth like a piranha

Then wear a cheer from ear to ear

And smile like a banana

Don't smile like you're saying “Cheese!”

Or like a World Cup winner

Or like you're off on holiday

Or eating Christmas dinner

Next time you're feeling pressure

Become a people charmer

Unclip them zips upon your lips

And smile like a banana

Want to be more mellow

Like that fruit that's coloured yellow?

Just smile like a banana!

Imagination

I can hear a pin drop

Rainy days that plip plop

Sister singing hip-hop

In my imagination

I can taste a choc ice

Crusty bread - a thick slice

Juicy strawberries - so nice

In my imagination

I can feel a breeze blow

Water in a stream’s flow

Frozen, crispy, cold snow

In my imagination

I can smell a strong cheese

Saltiness of vast seas

Earthy moss on dead trees

In my imagination

I can see a tube train

Last year’s holiday (Spain)

Visualise my own brain!

In my imagination

Every sense

Every sensation

You’ll find them too

In your imagination

Remember, Remember...

I shut my eyes

I cover my ears

Hide under a table

Petrified with fear

While fountains fizz

Rockets zoom around

My super-keen hearing

Magnifies their sound

As bangers bang

And barrages boom

I lie trembling alone

In the living room

Though you all say

“Spectacular sight!”

I'm terror-stricken

By the blinding light

So on November 5

Please don't forget

To spare a thought for me...

Your frightened family pet
